Reimagining an icon like The Venetian's feathered lion is no small feat. It demands a deep respect for legacy and an obsessive commitment to the craft. To tackle a project of this scale, we joined forces with Feral to partner with the amazing team at Digital Kitchen, focusing our expertise on the complex character creation and visual effects that would bring this new vision to life.
The task was to deconstruct and rebuild a famous brand mark in a way that felt modern, luxurious, and magical. The specific challenges were:
To respectfully modernize a beloved brand mark for a world-class luxury client, ensuring the result was a sophisticated evolution, not a departure.
To execute a design with an immense level of detail, requiring a solution for building a lion's face from over 2,000 individually placed digital feathers.
To create a complex disintegration effect that felt artful and controlled, not chaotic—a signature moment of elegant deconstruction befitting the brand.
Our solution was a true fusion of meticulous, hands-on artistry and brilliant, custom-built technology.
A Hybrid Approach to Craft: We tackled the lion's immense detail with a two-pronged strategy. The face—the soul of the character—was meticulously built with over 2,000 hand-placed feathers. For the flowing mane, we used procedural generation to create complex forms with perfect efficiency.
Custom, Art-Directable Simulation: To control the disintegration, we didn't use an off-the-shelf plugin. We engineered a bespoke simulation from the ground up. This custom tool gave our artists the ultimate power to direct the chaos, allowing them to sculpt the effect frame by frame to match the precise creative vision.
